PickleTree is the place for you! We are happy to work with patients from newborns to grandparents, and everyone in between!
The primary purpose of orofacial myofunctional therapy is to create an oral environment in which normal processes of orofacial and dental growth and development can take place, and be maintained (Hanson & Mason, 2003):
Establish Patent Nasal Airway
Oral Rest Posture (of Tongue, Lips, and Teeth)
Modify Handling and Swallowing of Saliva, Liquids, and Solids
Eliminate Oral Habits
Increase Speech Sound Articulatory Placement
Assist in Sleep Apnea Treatment Outcomes
How Long Does Myofunctional Therapy for Adults Take?
Myofunctional therapy is performed over several sessions lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to 60 minutes per session. The length of duration of the plan of care depends on the severity of the problem and the patient’s needs. Some people only need a few short sessions; others require longer treatment plans. As always, our team will work closely with you to determine the best course of action and what will work for you.
can Myofunctional Therapy be Combined With Other Treatments?
Sometimes, yes! In fact, most of our patients who receive myofunctional therapy go through this treatment along with orthodontic treatments and physical therapy.
