language + literacy
There are many components of language!
Receptive language: The ability to understand the information coming in from others
Expressive language: The ability to use language to communicate one’s message
Language therapy can address both oral and written language skills
Language plays a big part in reading. Decoding (the act of reading words) requires a child to be able to take apart the sounds in words (segmenting) and blend together sounds to make words. It requires both knowledge of letter-sound relationships, as well as an ability to apply that knowledge to successfully identify written words and make meaning.
Early phonological disorders of speech can have an effect on developing literacy skills.
